Indians get first win
By Brett Hart, Sports Editor
Menomonie’s boys’ soccer team picked up its first win of the season Sept. 8, at the Mississippi Valley Conference/Big River Conference Tournament at La Crosse Aquinas.
The Indians defeated La Crosse Logan, 4-1, in the first game of the tournament at Ryan Tietz picked up a hat trick on assists by Chris Zarbock, Dave Mollan, James Johnson and Erik Lacksonen. Lacksonen, who just returned from an injury, added a header goal for the Indians on an assist from Justin Schwarz during a free kick.
Menomonie co-head coach Jeff Parsons said, “We passed well. All of the goals were nice goals. None of them were garbage. They all came off some good passing and some good build-up.
“The win was really nice for our confidence. It was about a 4-1 game. We had a lot of pressure on them, and they did not have a lot of pressure on us. So it was nice to kind of burst the bubble and put some balls in the net.”
The 15-person MHS roster, battled fatigue in a 1-0 loss to Tomah in its second regulation game of the day.
Parsons said that, defensively, “We didn’t give up anything easy. We only took 15 boys and we played two regulation games in a day.

Soccer slideshow
Phil Schwarz has posted a great series of shots from last night's soccer game. The kids worked hard and came up on the short end of a 3-2 score.
