Free my phone PLEASE

Came across an excellent article from Walt Mossberg about the US being a laughingstock in how we allow the monopolistic treatment of our digital wireless world.

...from his blog...

That’s why I refer to the big cellphone carriers as the “Soviet ministries.” Like the old bureaucracies of communism, they sit athwart the market, breaking the link between the producers of goods and services and the people who use them.

October highlights...

Wow, it doesn't take long for a month to slip by... last weekend, Alison and I flew to San Francisco to see Laurie, as well as to participate with my brother Steven and his family as they had arranged a re-dedication ceremony of their wedding vows (they eloped 17 years ago, so we had a complete "regular church wedding." The wedding was held at a very cool restored Mission Church in San Jose. We then went out for dinner and dancing at the Top of the Mark... what spectacular views of SF.

Laurie gave us a personalized tour of the Federal Reserve Bank, and met some of her co-workers in her cube farm. We had a nice dinner at the Pier 23 cafe, overlooking the bay. Visited her quaint little apartment. She definitely lives IN the city.

Patrick has finished up his soccer season, the team improved greatly from last year. The fans considered this a success. Many close fought battles. He has landed a role the fall three act play, a Midsummer Night's Dream. The play will be performed December 13th through the 16th. Patrick has the part of Egeus.

I always seems to happen this time of year. Just when I think perhaps I'll start taking the game of golf less seriously, I begin to play a bit better. Today I made an all-time best 7 pars on the back nine at Chippewa Valley (two bogey's on 16 and 17, made a final score of 37. Unfortunately it was paired with a more normal 43 on the front. It does serve to keep me coming back for more!

My bass playing continues to improve, I thoroughly enjoy my regular work with the Cedarbrook Band. About one year ago, I went out and purchased a bass guitar, been playing it pretty regularly since Feb/Mar. It's great fun!
